[WoD] World of Darkness - MMO

Well i came across a little article about a game called "World of Darkness" its from the makers of Vampires the Masquerade and the other Vampire titles.
The game is based on the last Vampire title back to 2000-2002, which was one of the best RPG I'Ve ever be part of ;D

Well anyway in this game its based playing "Werewolves vs Vampires", and it uses the most realistic character engine and shading which is in developing and also the are atm the only one with the rights using that character engine, heres a little sneak peak for that game

estimated release date is 2012
developing company is: CCP North America, which have expirience in developing an MMO (EVE)
Game is in developing now since 5 years, and its based on the pen & paper ruleset of "world of darkness"

WoD is not really cyberpunk at all. Not even close. Unless they add Mage (Technocracy and Virtual Adepts and a dash of Sons of Ether for some steampunkish elements), but currently it looks more like Vampire MMO.

Kindred episodes? Looked really promising, sadly cancelled due to the death of the actor playing the main protagonist...

yes a game i can look forward to, thou it will be a long wait, then the question is what to play in the mean time.

but looking at WoD i am hoping that the design part will be there. and if we are going that way are we then taking the Vampire side or Werewolf. I am think Vampire but that just me

U're totally wrong but it's ok since u're Kermit, it's not cyberpunk at ALL :p

WOD is made by CCP the ones who did EVE. CCP also bought White Wolf Publishing (the company that created the World of Darkness setup).

I am not exactly sure how it will work out, but it's the most famous Pen & Paper setup after Dungeons & Dragons, and before Shadowrun.

In World of Darkness u got :

1) Vampires - with different clans, fighting each other for control over humans (ventrues & toreador ftw);
2) Werewolves - i'm not exactly sure what they are doing but they are tuff mofos (except vs old vampires);
3) Mages - self explanatory;
4) Wraith - as the name says, spirits of dead people who haunt stuff;
5) Mummies - well... ok, never tried that
6) Vampire hunters
7) other sorts of vampires (asians, africans...)

There are 2 major setups for Vampire :
1) Dark ages (15th century mostly)
2) Modern times - mostly NYC, London & Paris
I think there's a futuristic version too (but not sure)

I'm not sure how this will work out as Vampire is mostly a political game due to the camarilla (making vampires unknown to the human world); that means that vampires use their ghouls to do their stuff, they can't fight directly between each other (drinking another vampire's blood is called diabolism (in english i think) and is totally forbidden, only assamites get vampire blood as rewards for assassination contracts under specific rules).

Furthermore, all factions fight each other, so it'll be in terms of who plays what, but well a fight between a vampire and a werewolf would be a little bit strange (and quite fast, vampire gets chomped unless he's ooollldd or a tremere).

Anyhow, World of Darkness is a very good setup, and CCP is a very good company that did a super job with EVE, so i'm hoping that it'll deliver. Also it's the first time that i see a game company buying directly the publisher of a RPG to adapt it ^^, maybe they'll do a new version of the core rules that will fit the game mechanics lol.

Just hope CCP keep their promise it will be a sandbox(atleast as much as possible..) game and not a linear game like WoW!... kinda like EvE but with character control() but in WoD setting *drool*

I tried the demo had no idea wtf I was doing..gave up after 10 mins

Played quite some with teh unit3d, we own rancer, -10 rats :p

Just finished watching True Blood and it increased my appetite for WoD... can't wait to see what this game will be like.

I just hope that it won't crawl with Camarilla freaks from all over the world (yeah it exists, u got people playing Vampire Pen & Paper "in the flesh" 24/7 - and those dudes are ALL OVER THE WORLD ><).

Funny part, is they use "rock, paper, scissor" everytime they do a fight...

WoD and CCP are both 10/10 on me, even if i'd prefer a Shadowrun or Cyberpunk MMORPG.
