Definitly not about a cashing cow... Enix is probably one of the most rich companies in the biz, most likely not far from Blizzard. Thats why they dont even bother much with FF online and always turns out shit.

PS Vita is bringing shitloads of remakes because it needs good simple games. Even Revolution Software is coming back from the dead, bringing the remakes of Broken Sword for it and planing new titles of 2D adventures based on point and click.
Were going to be seing a lot of this in the coming year with that console. To be honest, Im definitly geting one it looks amazing and shitloads of fun.

a remake of x seems so out of place to me i would have understood them going for the popular remake if they did 7 but 10 is less popular and less aged only thing that seems reasonable to me is that they x due to it being less work.

but maybe im jsut grumpy since 4,5 and 6 are my favs

The reason they did X has nothing to do with quality or popularity, it's to do with how cheaply they can do it. Redoing VI or VII for the current generation would effectively be like making a new game, no models or animations could be reused, it would need an entirely new engine, complete voice over, basically all they would have is a script and some concept art.

FFX on the other hand will be updated in the same way Shadows of the Colossus is being updated. All they need to do is increase the resolution, make some new high res textures, add some lighting/particle effects, and reduce the load times a bit.

Updating the older games is the kind of task a proper studio would need years to do, updating X is the kind of thing a couple of modders could do in their spare time.

Yes I read what you said, but I was pointing out the difference in scale of the two projects. It's not like they just saved a few bucks doing FFX because it was a bit easier. It's like the difference between painting your house to make it look nicer and completely rebuilding it somewhere else based on some photos you've got.

Well yeah, Square-Enix are currently at the stage EA was 5-10 years ago. They have just started snowballing buying up smaller studios and cranking up their profits. They will need to completely lose all their credibility before they actually make anything good again.

At the moment they are at the point where they can pump out any old shite and it'll sell because it's Square-Enix. They've got a couple more years of that until the general public start to realise that they only care about profit, at which point they will actually have to start making worth while games and not just making as much money as fast as they can.

EA successfully managed to claw back it's reputation after becoming the figurehead of everything that was wrong with the gaming industry but then they did it by hiding behind the massive scapegoat that is Activision. Everytime they made a mistake they could just say "Hey, at least we aren't Bobby Kotick". Square-Enix are unlikely to have the same luck.

P.S. I hate having to write Square-Enix everytime but you have to because you can't just say Square in case people start thinking Square-Enix and Squaresoft are the same people.
